Abstract: Tobacco (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) is cultivated as a cash crop through out the world. Performance of different flue cured tobacco genotypes were studied under the agro ecological conditions of swabi region. Five flue cured Virginia (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) varieties were evaluated for their growth, yield and other morphological characteristics at the Lakson Tobacco Company, Yar Hussain during 2005—2006. All genotypes were significantly different for plant height, leaf size, green leaves, cured leaves and yield hac-1. However non–significant differences were manifested for number of leaves plant-1. Maximum cured leaf yield of 3312 kg ha-1 was recorded in new promising variety PVH- 156 PVH-19 gave maximum leaf size (609 cm2) and number of leaves (26 leaves plant-1). The genotype PVH-156 gave highest yield and can be considered as potential substitute for the presently cultivated variety with modest yield.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of olive oils from cooperatives for olive growers and allowed us to identify and classify the oils. The samples which were studied collected from the North of Morocco are specific to the region of Ouazzane in Loukkos were examined for physical and chemical properties (acidity, pH, peroxide values, saponification number, iodine value, ultraviolet spectrophotometric analysis (k232 and k270), refractive index), fatty acids composition and total phenol content. Olive oil was analyzed for fatty acids commonly present in olive oils which are palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic, and arachidic. Oliec acid was found in high percentage ranged from (64.80 to 72.80), followed by palmitic, Linoleic, palmitoleic, stearic and linolenic. Arachidic acid was detected in all olive oil samples but in low percentage. Total phenol contents expressed as gallic acid of olive oils values ranged from (112 to 313 mg/kg). All olive oil samples were compared with International Olive Oil Council (IOOC), were not exceed the limits and exhibited remarkable physicochemical properties and could be useful as edible oils and industrial applications.

Pages: 12-17 Paper ID: 147802-3939-IJBAS-IJENS Published: April, 2014
Abstract: This study mixed mushroom compost, bark compost, peat moss, sandy loamy soil, and cohesive agent of hydro-seeding materials, and chose the landslide of upper slope on forest trail as the hydro-seeding experimental area for vegetation material and plant succession analyses. It is expected to enhance the benefits of vegetation to the application of hydro-seeding materials. After the plant succession in the test area for one year, the plant society still shows herbaceous plants with increasing varieties. Lolium multiflorum shows the strong growth possibly because that locates on 1,250m above sea level with lower temperature, which is suitable for the growth of Lolium multiflorum. The average vegetation coverage of the slope achieves 80.4% after proceeding netting hydro-seeding for two months, but drops down to 75.5% after one year. The experimental area therefore presents a transitional plant society with bush layer and herbaceous layer. Since organic matter decomposition efficiency of bark compost is higher than other fiber materials, it could enhance the vegetation coverage in the early period, which also benefits the invasive growth of surrounding woody plants and plant succession.

Title: Estimation and Comparison of Weibull Parameters for Reliability Assessments of Douglas-fir Wood
Author(s): Shih-Hao Lee
Pages: 18-21 Paper ID: 148202-9191-IJBAS-IJENS Published: April, 2014
Abstract: The concept of reliability-based design based on failure probability has been widely applied to any material structure in terms of safety and economy of design. However, wood, a natural product with born defects, is recognized as a hygroscopic, inhomogeneous and anisotropic material. Wood frequently exhibits unusually physical properties with broad degree of variability. Therefore, the reliability-based design of wood structure is a highly complicated subject and is still in a developmental stage. The variability of wood strength, one of interested properties, may be described by one of standard fundamental statistical distributions. The Weibull distribution is well known for assessing the reliability of material. Hence, it was selected to assess the reliability of wood strength. However, proper use of Weibull distribution requires that its parameters be accurately estimated. Therefore, the 2-parameter, (scale, shape), and 3-parameter, (location, scale, shape), Weibull functions were used and compared in this study. The coefficient of determination, R2, is a measure of goodness of fit. The higher R2 is, the greater goodness of fit is. R2 of 3-parameter Weibull distribution (0.935) is higher than that of 2-parameter Weibull distribution (0.893). The 3-parameter Weibull distribution proved to be better than 2-parameter distribution to assess the reliability of wood strength. It is hoped that the results of this study can offer designers information on how to estimate the probability of failure and adopt precautions necessary to prevent failure at a given level of probability.

Abstract: Life expectancy is one of the indicators used to assess quality of health of society. Based on Statistics Indonesia, life expectancy at birth is average years of life that will be lived by a newborn in a given year. Life Expectancy in a region different from other regions depends on the quality of life that can be achieved by the resident. Many factors affect the life expectancy in East Java (Indonesia), thereby modeling needs to be done to determine the factors that affect life expectancy significantly. This study uses six factors which are suspected affect life expectancy in East Java include social, economic, health, and education factor. Data of Life Expectancy and 6 factors were recorded in 2010 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of East Java. The method used to model the life expectancy is semiparametric spline regression. The variables that have a significant impact are infant mortality rate, percentage of infants aged 0-11 months who were breastfed for 4-6 months, and the percentage of infants aged 1-4 years who received complete immunization.

Author(s): Sujito
Pages: 33-36 Paper ID:148602-5959-IJBAS-IJENS Published: April, 2014
Abstract: This paper deals with the fabrication of short single bamboo fiber (BF) reinforced biodegradable emulsion-type Poly-lactic Acid (PLA) resin environmentally-friendly “green” composites. The “green” composite with BF loading from 15 to 75 mass % were prepared by hot-press molding at conditions of constant temperature of 1400C, pressures of 10 MPa, and time molding of 10 minutes. The effect of BF contents on tensile and flexural properties was investigated. The measurement finding showed that the tensile and flexural properties were affected by the BF content. The best tensile and flexural properties were observed for the GC with 40 mass % BF content. Morphological BF reinforced “green” composites have also been investigated. The results obtained emphasize the applications of these fibers, as potential reinforcing materials in biodegradable based or “green” composites.

Abstract: The oscillation domain wall (DW) was studied at Co nanowire. It is consist of a symmetry notches such as arc, triangular and rectangular with the dimension of 2000×200×5 nm3. The micromagnetic simulation based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert was performed by using AC magnetic field along the wire axis at constant amplitude 2 mT ,frequency from 0.3 to 2.0 GHz, and damping constant 0.01. It was found that DW oscillation occurred on all type of notches at the same frequency. However, it’s shown that the DW oscillation in rectangular notch generate amplitude. It can be seen that the amplitudo of DW decreases as the applied field increases, furthermore, phase difference between the applied field and the DW position increases as the frequency increases.

Abstract: According to the conventional model of a solar cell, a solar current can be induced when electrons are separated into electrons and holes in the presence of incident solar light. However, solar currents are also possible when pinned charge density waves go beyond the pinning potential barrier under the influence of incident solar beams, as suggested by some authors. Here, solar currents were measured and compared with theoretical predictions, showing good correspondence and confirming the angle dependence of solar light.

Author(s): Gao Jing-Hui, Hsueh Ya-Hui
Pages: 48-56 Paper ID:147502-7171-IJBAS-IJENS Published: April, 2014
Abstract: This research focused on the arrangement types of travel nodes, according to 350 valid questionnaires of conducting in-depth interviewing and questionnaires survey of travelers stayed at Dong-Gang area, and examined the relationship between the traveler types and the travel route types by using cross tabulation analysis. According to the extent of mindful plan before itinerary and the average staying time of a tourist spot, the travelers may be reduced to three types-main attraction visitors, specialists, and explorers. The assessment of the different properties of the three travel routes (P1, P2, P3) has some practical implications. It is recognized that P1 travel routes and P2 travel routes are more demonstrated by the travelers, while P3 travel routes are less in proportion. A cross tabulation analysis was conducted between the traveler types and the travel route types. The chi-square test was adopted to verify whether there is any relevance between traveler types and travel route types. The statistical significance (p <.001) shows a significant difference between the two variables. Meanwhile, the prediction between traveler type and travel route type based on staying duration is the more mindful planned travelers staying for over two days with radiating hub types and the random traveler staying for less than two days with random exploratory types.
