Title: Analysis of Airflow in Multi-room Building for Different Ventilation Patterns
Author(s): Tarek Meakhail
Pages: 1-11 Paper ID: 130504-6464-IJMME-IJENS Published: August, 2013
Abstract: This study investigates (numerically and experimentally) airflow characteristics in multi-room building for different ventilation patterns with the same air inlet flow rate. Seven ventilation patterns (full open, pass through, right short circuit, left short circuit, pass through plus right short circuit, pass through plus left short circuit, and (right and left short circuit) are considered to study multi-room airflow characteristics. Also, the effect of door opening percentage on airflow characteristics in multi-room buildings is studied. The results show that although the air flow rate is the same for the seven ventilation patterns the airflow characteristics are quite different for various ventilation patterns. The ventilation pattern has a major effect on the air change. Also, the results indicate that the door opening percentage affected airflow characteristics in multi-room buildings and the model predications are in good agreement with the experiments.

Pages: 12-23 Paper ID: 132004-5858-IJMME-IJENS Published: August, 2013
Abstract: This paper contributes to the effort being made by The Energy Center (TEC), KNUST and African Union Commission to disseminate knowledge of Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) and as well increase the awareness of the general public especially the youth of Africa in RETs by measuring the average wind speed and direction of a selected project site (designated Site 0001) on the campus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). In order to generate a comprehensive wind data report for Site 0001 on KNUST campus a building-integrated hybrid mast (placed at a height of 20 m above ground level), NRG Wind instruments and data retriever as well as Stata, Microsoft Excel and WAsP software were employed. The wind data provided in this paper include monthly and annual average wind speeds, monthly wind gusts, prevailing wind direction and turbulence intensity of air flow among other parameters for Site 0001 on KNUST campus. The wind data made available by this paper can be used by both students and the general public alike for educational and agricultural purposes, air pollution and small wind turbine assessments in Kumasi.

Title: Construction and Research of Pyramidal Arrangement Milling Machine-Tool of "Triglide" Type
Author(s): Yuriy Nickolayevich Kuznetsov, Ibrahem Farhan Salman AL-Refo, Dmitriy Alekseyevich Dmitriev
Pages: 24-28 Paper ID: 133303-1304-7474-IJMME-IJENS Published: August, 2013
Abstract: The resiliently-tense state of drilling-milling machine-tool of pyramidal arrangement (DMMPA) with the mechanisms of parallel structure (MPS) is considered. The size of the resilient wringing of executive branch (EB) is analyzed depending on the added loading .The study include set of recommendations regarding treatment strategies and mode treatment of working areas. Different directions of loading force were considered and the circumstances for inflexibility loss in single positions subject to constraints and limits for example, length of barbells, angle limits of hinges rotation.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to reduce hexane loss during the process of extraction oil from palm kernel that would reduce the production cost and increase the net profit. The study is carried out in a leading palm oil factory in Malaysia. At present solvent extraction plant are facing problem of high hexane loss, average 9.5 litre/metric ton (ltr/mt). To reduce the hexane loss, critical investigations were performed to improve the heat transfer between hexane vapour and water condenser shell and tube. Preliminary investigations reveal that 21% of the hexane is being loss during plant operation. The present redesigned heat exchanger is successfully reduced the hexane loss from 9.5% ltr/mt to 7.5ltr/mt per day of the same operating plant which saves about RM904, 800 per annum for the industry. Ultimately, the outcome of this study gives a great economic impact to the industry by reducing the production cost leading into the reduction of oil price for the nation. In addition it is found that not only the monetary impact is benefited, but, the release of hexane to atmospheric also reduced to ensure safe healthy life of people surrounding the plant.

Abstract: The purpose of indoor and outdoor mobile robot navigation is to move the mobile robot toward target with stable target navigation. In this study, motion information from the movements of the two-wheeled mobile robot is used as an input to the Fuzzy membership function (MF), which is designed in the preliminary experiments. The probability value outputted from the MF is used to move the forward velocity of the mobile robot called AHMAD-R toward target. The experimental results show that the proposed fuzzy approach has the stable target navigation and could be used to navigate the mobile robot in the indoor environment.
