Title: Using Logistic Regression Model To Construct Insulator Spark Detection System

Abstract: This paper develops a visual images insulator spark detection system (VIISDS) associated with logistic regression model to study the relationship between spark discharge and leakage current in transmission insulators. In this study, image processing technology which comprises images preprocessing, detecting and analyzing the spark characteristics is first applied to deal with visual images of sparks discharged on the surface of insulators captured by the developed remote monitoring system. The logistic regression model is then applied to establish a probability model that uses visual images as the determining factor for insulator cleaning (with early warning for leakage current) to identify the relationship between spark intensity and leakage current. The leakage current of insulators could be estimated according to spark intensity observed in the images, and no remote leakage current measuring device was required. This enabled the early warning of leakage current at varying levels and facilitated the development of an insulator maintenance mechanism for transmission lines that uses discharge images of insulators over traditional night-time observations.

Title: Fabrication of CO Gas Sensor Device Based Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) By Thin Film Technology

Abstract: In this paper it will be described the design and fabrication of microdevice to be used as platform for CO (Carbon monoxide) gas sensor based on indium tin oxide (ITO). The device has been designed on silicon substrate with an active area of 3x3 mm2 , and consisted of bonding pad, heater, electrode, and temperature sensor components. The minimum feature size used is 50 microns, as allowed by the capability of photolithographic process. The formation of microdevice structure has been done mainly using lift-off technique on platinum (Pt) layer, which was deposited by DC sputtering with aluminium (Al) as sacrificial layer. The overall chip dimension is not more than 5x5 mm2.The measurement conducted to study the resistance versus temperature characteristics has shown that the heater and temperature sensor elements have functioned as expected, in which their resistances change linearly with an increase in substrate temperature between 20 – 200 0C. The range of increase in resistance values for the heater is 500 – 1000 ohm, whereas for the temperature sensor is 100 – 300 ohm.

Title: Analysis of VLF Signals Perturbations on the Equatorial D-region Ionosphere Induced by Solar Flares

Abstract: An analysis of D-region electron density profile variations during solar flare events for the period of January 2010 to April 2013 is presented. We measured the amplitude and phase perturbations of three fixed VLF (Very Low Frequency) signals, f = 19.8 kHz, (NWC, Australia), f = 22.2 kHz, (JJI, Japan) and f = 21.4 kHz (NPM, Hawaii) propagate along the Earth-ionosphere waveguide (EIWG). All flare effects chosen for the analysis recorded by Stanford AWESOME VLF receiver on the single trace narrowband signal propagating through Transmitter Receiver Great Circle Path (TRGCP) with the distances of 2700 km, 3300 km, and 11000 km respectively. All selected examples showed that the amplitude and/or phase of VLF signals were perturbed by solar X-ray flares occurrence. Solar flare data from NOAA GOES15 satellite five-minute listings were used for flare event verification. In total, 145 flare events have been observed and we found that the enhancement of amplitude and/or phase of VLF signals were due to the increased of ionization rate in the D-region electron density associated with solar flare occurrences. The flare events affected the VLF wave profile in the EIWG in a different way, for different X-ray flux intensities and different characteristics of examined VLF waves.

Abstract: The telemedical practice consists in taking from patient a multidimensional and multimedia information representative of its physiopathological state, to stream them to a local computer terminal initially then to a distant computer terminal in the second time. We propose through this article : 1) The realization of a noninvasive and nonintrusive telemedical platform dedicated to simultaneous acquisition and in real-time up to sixteen unidimensional physiological signals. 2) The realization of a hardware interface built around the C.A.N series AD0830 of Analog Device ensuring the digitalization of the signals and the microcontroller 18F2550 of Microchip ensuring their transfers from the patient towards the local post under protocol USB with specifications HID. 3) The realization of a graphical interface under environment Visual BASIC making profitable the component Winsock compatible with the operating system Windows and architecture client-server allowing the connection of the various terminals computer for the transfer of the data through the telemedical networks under protocol TCP-IP.

Title: A Review of Utilisation of Cutting Force Analysis In Cutting Tool Condition Monitoring

Abstract: In machining process, phenomena that can be measured such as cutting force, vibration, acoustic emission, torque, surface finish, sound etc. commonly occurred. Cutting force is very important because it relates to the design of tools, power consumption, vibration, machine design parts, precision parts, and etc. This study presents a review of the utilisation of cutting force analysis in tool condition monitoring (TCM) in machining operations to estimate the tool wear, tool breakage, chatter etc. The suitable of signal processing for analysing cutting force in TCM also discussed. There are two ways of force measurement technologies mainly used today; piezoelectric and strain gauge based sensors. The piezoelectric sensors have several advantages compared to strain gauge and giving a better result in cutting force signals compared to the strain gauge such as low cost, high sensitivity, high mechanical stiffness, excellent repeatability, unidirectional sensitivity and has wide of bandwidth.

Title: The Genetics of Sickle Cell Anemia: A Literature Review

Abstract: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common form of a genetic group of hemoglobinopathies in which normal human hemoglobin (HbA) is partially or completely replaced by mutant sickle hemoglobin (HbS). The cause of HbS is a punctiform mutation with a single amino acid substitution (glutamic acid for valine), characterized by a production of erythrocytes in sickle which results in typical condition of this disease, like hemolytic anemia and vaso-occlusion. It is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in which affected people have the genotype homozygous for HbS, which affects about 250.000 children annually, being more frequent in certain ethnic groups. Early diagnosis is needed to achieve prophylaxis and / or minimization of complications of this desease. Despite all the knowledge of this condition, the treatment is limited to crisis control and prophylaxis. Numerous advances have emerged, such as bone marrow transplantation and gene therapy, allowing infer that, in the near future, effectively cure of this disease will be achieved. This study aims to assess and collate knowledge of the literature about sickle cell anemia (SCA), and their molecular, genetic, clinical and epidemiological characters.

Title: Greedy Expectation Maximization Tuning Algorithm of finite GMM Based Face, Voice and Signature Multi-Modal Biometric Verification Fusion Systems

Abstract: In this paper, the use of finite Gaussian mixture modal (GMM) based Greedy Expectation Maximization (GEM) estimated algorithm for score level data fusion is proposed. Automated biometric systems for human identification measure a “signature” of the human body, compare the resulting characteristic to a database, and render an application dependent decision. These biometric systems for personal authentication and identification are based upon physiological or behavioral features which are typically distinctive, Multi-biometric systems, which consolidate information from multiple biometric sources, are gaining popularity because they are able to overcome limitations such as non-universality, noisy sensor data, large intra-user variations and susceptibility to spoof attacks that are commonly encountered in mono modal biometric systems. Simulation show that finite mixture modal (GMM) is quite effective in modelling the genuine and impostor score densities, fusion based the resulting density estimates achieves a significant performance on eNTERFACE 2005 multi-biometric database based on dynamic face, signature and speech modalities.

Title: Fuzzy-XDDS: A Fuzzy Based Cross-Domain Services Matchmaker for Semantic Web Services

Abstract: Web Services have been growing as an inventive mechanism to render various services to random devices over the World Wide Web (WWW). These Services can be interoperable through platforms and also neutral to all programming languages, which makes them suitable for accessing the Heterogeneous and different Environments. The consumer could not select the “right” Service Provider as a concern of the fast growth of various Applications of various Web Services and the plenty of available Service Providers. To help consumers, the UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration) had proposed earlier, which catalogues of published the Web Services Description Language specifications of available Services. These catalogues are organized as per sequences of processes involved in the business domain. The Service Providers advertising their Services to the suitable categorical UDDI explorer. By using a well-formed API (Application Programming Interface) calls, the Service Requesters surf the UDDI by group and type wise to discover the available Web Services applicable to users’ query. The Semantic Web Services are presented to discuss the above mentioned problem and also to enable the publication of autonomous, discovery and Web Services Execution. A few recently proposed Fuzzy based Services Matchmaking Frameworks such as Fuzzy Matchmaking for Web Services, A Moderated Fuzzy Matchmaking for Web Services, Adaptive Fuzzy-Valued Service Selection, A Hybrid Approach to Semantic Web Services Matchmaking and Fuzzy Matchmaking Model for Semantic based Web Services have been studied thoroughly. This research work has revealed that the latest model called Fuzzy Matchmaking Approach for Semantic Web Services performing well in terms of Recall Rate and Precision Rate for selecting Web Services as compared with existing models. This model ranks services as per the significant weights of the developer’s query. However, from our study, this work has revealed that this model does not focus both the Services Ontology and Matching Services across domain boundaries while ranking and selecting Services for Service Requesters’ request and hence this model couldn’t provide required QoS to the Web Users. To address these major issues, this research work has proposed an efficient Fuzzy based Cross-Domain Services Matchmaker (Fuzzy-XDDS) which is extending Service Discovery across Domain Boundaries. This model also has the ability to discover services across domain boundaries in a Flexible and Scalable manner as this is proposed for Cross-Domain Web Service Discovery which is based on the principles of Interoperability, Modularity and Scalability. The experimental results show that our proposed Fuzzy-XDDS performing well as compared with Fuzzy Matchmaker in terms of Precision Rate, Recall Rate and Imprecision Rate.

Title: A Stepped Pyramidal Reward Factor in Genetic Algorithms for Constrained Optimization of Aeroassisted Orbital Maneuvers

Abstract: This paper presents an efficient method of securing and accelerating the convergence of genetic algorithms for constrained optimization problems. The method is based on the introduction of a particular form of reward factors, which can be considered as the inverse of the classic penalty function. These factors are coefficients that consider the various constraints of the problem when formulating a fitness function. The proposed shape of the reward factor follows a stepped pyramidal function. The efficiency of the method, which is of general applicability, was demonstrated in the context of an optimization problem for an aeroassisted orbital plane change maneuver. The case study demonstrates the rapid convergence of the genetic algorithm obtained by first satisfying the constraints and subsequently maximizing the objective function of the problem.

Abstract: The purpose of this article was to highlight the experience of implementation of Intellectual property rights in moderating the relationship of internal and external R&D with the operation performance of the company. The first objective of this paper was to investigate the levels of Operational Performance between Internal R&D, External R&D and IPR among chemical and metallurgical manufacturing companies in Malaysia. The second objective was to investigate whether IPR moderates R&D capabilities towards company’s Operations Performance and the third objective was to compare differences in the levels of Operational performance, Internal R&D, External R&D and IPR based on company status. The population for this study was 599. Only 124 survey responses were usable. It was found that intellectual property rights (patent), signaled the different role played by patent in that relationship. Internal R&D can be successful and have effects towards operational performance. Implementation of external R&D was found able to help companies to run away from dealing with financial constraints which will help to increase company’s operational performance. The IPR moderated relationship between external R&D towards operational performance was exist in the study. This study also indicates that depending types of company’s would apply IPR according to their own expenses and capabilities. A few recommendations were highlighted in order to improve the operational performance of the chemical and metallurgical manufacturing companies. There are still room for improvement that can be useful and being implemented for companies to sustain their business.

Title: SAR Investigation of Novel Wearable Reduced-Coupling Microstrip Antenna Array

Abstract: Novel KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) slogan shape microstrip antenna is presented. The single and two element antenna array were designed and fabricated on a Roger RT/Duroid 5880 substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2, thickness of 1.5748 mm, and tan d = 0.001. The measured results were obtained using Anritsu 37297D VNA. The results show that a reduction in mutual coupling between array elements of 11.9 dB is achieved at 2.542 GHz with band (2.39 - 2.69) GHz, due to introducing Electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures. EBG structure is a KSA slogan shape. By increasing the size of EBG cells and varying the gap distance between cells to certain limit, the mutual coupling reduction is improved. Also, a reduction in size of 89.5% is achieved. The microstrip array was simulated by CST simulator version 2014 and fabricated by proto laser machine with precision 25µm. The specific absorption rate (SAR) investigation is carried out on CST 2014 Simulator. Maximum SAR value is 1.36 W/Kg which indicates that the KSA slogan shape microstrip wearable antennas is safe for human. The antenna can be used in the military or RFID applications.
